How often should you have a transmission flush?
Industry experts recommend you have your transmission flush serviced every 12 months or 20,000km, whichever comes first. Your transmission works hard in your car to get you from A to B, and being one of the most expensive mechanisms to repair, it makes sense to take care of it. The Importance of transmission servicing
Around 90 per cent of automatic transmission failures are due to overheating or contaminated fluid, and the cost to rebuild them is usually in the thousands of dollars.
Like your car’s engine oil, its automatic transmission fluid acts as a lubricant and detergent, carrying away damaging heat and contaminants, and protecting against wear and tear. But unlike engine oil, most of your transmission’s fluid is not replaced by a typical drain and fill service, which only replaces up to 40 per cent. The rest is trapped in the torque converter, valve body and cooler lines. Adding fresh transmission fluid to this can dislodge damaging sludge and varnish deposits.
Many modern transmissions do not have accessible filters or even a dipstick, making it nearly impossible for the average person to check the fluid level. Having incorrect fluid levels can majorly damage your transmission, causing low pressure, slipping and overheating. While many manufacturers consider their transmissions a “non-serviceable, sealed unit” with “lifetime oil”, this is untrue. All transmissions are serviceable, and oil does not last a lifetime. However, not servicing can reduce the lifetime of your transmission.

How much does a Transmission Flush cost?
Successfully flushing an automatic transmission flushing requires the use of specialised equipment. Simply opening the gearbox's bottom plug would only allow around 30% of the oil to escape, while the rest remains stuck in different parts of the gearbox.
